Excluding the many genera of shrubby mesembs housed in these two groups leaves about 44 relevant taxa, many widely cultivated. Among the easiest and most charming sphaeroids, we have Gibbaeum and its fuzzy cousin, Muiria. Trichodiademma ranges from shrubby to compact, and several make excellent pot and garden plants.
Delosperma, Drosanthemum, Lampranthus, and Oscularia are all horticulturally important as in-ground Mediterranean garden plants, and will need to be treated in a later volume and at least partially by other authors.
